The politics behind the Michaud announcement

Maine Representative and gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud surprised a lot of people when he admitted to the media on Monday that he is gay. He says he’s coming out now because he wanted to head off what he’s calling a campaign of whispers about his sexuality.

The announcement comes one day before incumbent governor Paul LePage is set to launch his re-election campaign.
